PI Planning
What is PI Planning?
PI Planning is an agile practice adopted to plan and align the work of multiple teams in a project. It plays a fundamental role in service management, enabling effective collaboration between teams, providing visibility of progress, and improving coordination of activities.
Procedure
To create a PI Planning, click on "Add PI Planning" on the homepage.
General Data
On the left side of the screen, enter a name for your PI Planning, choose the program or product name by clicking on the down arrow icon, and do the same to select the Sprint size.
✏️ Note: This field will only be available after you select a date, a step we will show next.
On the right side of the screen, choose a date by clicking on the calendar icon, and choose the number of iterations by clicking on the down arrow icon, then click "Next."
Add Arts
On the next screen, select an Art by clicking on the down arrow icon and click "Next."
Iterations
On the next screen, enter a name for each of your iterations. For example, we are naming the teams that will interact in this project. Finally, click "Create." Your PI will appear on the homepage.
Glossary
Program
In SAFe, a program is an organizational entity that brings together multiple agile teams to work together on a larger and more complex solution. It consists of a set of Agile Release Trains (ARTs), which are agile development teams responsible for delivering value independently. The program is led by an Agile Program Manager and guided by a Program Vision, which establishes the goals and objectives to be achieved.
Product
In SAFe, a product is the solution being developed and delivered by agile teams. It can be software, hardware, a service, or any other value delivery to customers. A product may have multiple versions or releases and is managed by a Product Manager or Product Owner.
Sprint
In the context of agile software development, a "sprint" is a fixed and short period of time during which a development team works to complete a set of tasks and deliver a functional software increment. The sprint is a fundamental unit in Scrum, one of the most popular agile methods.
Iteration
In the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), an "iteration" is a concept similar to "sprint" in Scrum. It represents a fixed and short period during which agile teams work to deliver incremental value throughout the development of a product or solution.
ART
In the context of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), "ART" stands for Agile Release Train, which can be translated as "Agile Release Train." The ART is an organizational structure that brings together multiple agile teams to work together on the development and delivery of a complex software or system solution.
